DAY 15
SEPTEMBER 29, 2024

FOR OUR LEADERS

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way,  2 Timothy 2:1-2

Just before Donald Trump was sworn in as president of the United States in January of 2017 rain began to fall in Washington D.C. Franklin Graham came to the podium to read from the Bible and pray. While doing so Graham went off script for a moment to comment on rain being “a sign of blessing” in the Bible. He even went so far as to point out that the rain started right at the time Trump “came to the platform,” as if suggesting God had planned it that way. When our candidate is victorious we seem to look for ways to associate it with divine nature, but not so much when we don’t get our desired outcome.

God’s desire is for us to pray for “all people.” This includes even those who’s belief system may contrast with ours. Paul challenges us to look beyond our political ideology and trust the power of the gospel. Let us be reminded that Paul’s main focus was always on the spread of the gospel and he believed that the gospel could spread during the rule of friendly rulers as well as hostile rulers. Take this time to ask God to help you stay focused on what is important to Him no matter how you feel about your current leaders.

CONSIDER THIS:
Read: 1 Timothy 2:1-7
  • Are you willing to pray for “all people” no matter how you feel about them?
  • Do you believe that God can use all things for His good even if a leader intended it to be harmful?
  • Are you willing to look beyond your feeling and focus on the power of the gospel to impact the heart of all of your leaders?

PRAY: This passage urges us to pray for all leaders, particularly those in high positions. Ask God to help you focus on the gospel so that you may pray for His will to be done and His kingdom to come no matter who is in earthly leadership positions.
