DAY 9
SEPTEMBER 23, 2024

MY FUTURE

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13

Imagine you, along with everything and everyone in your life, were uprooted and taken to a faraway land—somewhere full of pain and a deep longing for what once was. The life you had was gone, and the path ahead is a mystery.

This was the predicament of the ancient southern kingdom called Judah. They were exiled out of their homeland and into a new place called Babylon, under a new ruler named Nebuchadnezzar. The life they once had was besieged; the life they now lived was agonizing; and the life that lay ahead was all mystery, with no good outcome in sight. Where is God in my future? If you find yourself asking that question, know that your confusing future does not indicate a confusing God. Where is God? He’s working. To help you, even you. For Judah, He sent the prophet Jeremiah, to write a prophetic letter in Jeremiah 29 that provided a way forward, a way toward hope. Judah desired the lives they once had, but God desired to give them a new life, “a future and a hope.” For you, Christian, He is giving you a new life, “a future and a hope.”

CONSIDER THIS:
Read:  2 Kings 25:1-21 & Jeremiah 29:1-14
  • What is so comforting about knowing that God is working in your situation?
  • Why can we trust God with our future?
  • How can you practically seek God as you walk into the future?

PRAY:  In Jeremiah 29:7, he writes to “seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf.” Pray that God would enable you to be a prayerful influence in your city.
