DAY 4
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024
Jesus is my SHEPHERD
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Psalm 23:1-6
David, a shepherd boy from Bethlehem, knew the intricacies of taking care of sheep. He learned the importance of knowing each sheep by name and providing for their every need. He guided them to places of sustenance and rest. It was David’s presence and reassuring voice that protected and comforted his sheep. As the sheep learned their shepherd’s voice and followed him, they had no worries or fears. The shepherd provided all they needed to be content, knowing that he was watching over them.
In this Psalm, David recognizes and acknowledges that the LORD is his personal Shepherd! David had a good idea what that meant and we can too. I’m convinced the more we know God and the depth of His love and care for each one of us, the more we will trust Him and follow Him.
CONSIDER THIS:
Read: John 10:11-15; Hebrews 13:20-21
PRAY: Thank God for specific ways He has cared for you.
