Paying it forward with church plant
Crosspoint invests in new school & church in Thailand
Since our first years as a new church, Crosspoint Point has made it a priority to position itself to pay it forward and help plant more Gospel-centered churches. Each week, a designated percentage of the tithes from the faithful giving Crosspointers goes into a savings account until God guides us to where He wants to put it to work.
Last week, the church leadership approved a significant investment toward the initial renovation costs of an English language school in Phayao, Thailand, led by longtime Crosspointers and ministry partners Doug and Paulette Piper.
During last Sunday’s church service, Associate Pastor Wesley Peden shared the vision behind the investment and the church’s heart for global missions. “Your faithful giving has gone to gospel efforts on the other side of the world in a country less than 1 percent of the population has even heard of Jesus Christ,” Wesley told the church. “That is an incredible thing that we are very excited about.”
The Project Phayao ministry now consists of The Bridge English Language School and the Bridge Church, which work hand-in-hand to focus on relationship-building outreach through English classes, community engagement, Bible studies, and disciple/leadership development.
Construction and preparation efforts for the school are already underway in Thailand with drywall installation, windows, and other developments at the future ministry site. For the Thai people, learning English means accessibility to considerably higher wage jobs. The minimum wage in Thailand is about 375 baht a DAY (equals about $12 a day depending on exchange rate).
“What we see right now is drywall and windows and the technicalities of construction,” Wesley said Sunday about photos of the school. “But what the Thai people see in their community now is hope. In a world of darkness and the lostness of Buddhism, they now get to see the hope and the light of Christ.”
By the time the summer Crosspoint mission team arrives in the next few weeks, they will be able to help some with setting up the actual classrooms in addition to community ministry efforts and English Fun Days at public schools.
While the donation helps with a significant portion of the construction costs, the Pipers have spent the last month stateside hoping to recruit additional partners (individuals and churches), especially for operational support as the efforts continue to grow. For now, the Bridge Church is home-based until it grows and God directs those next steps.
“We’re so grateful for the people and leadership of Crosspoint supporting us on this faith journey. This donation is certainly helping us launch the efforts in Phayao,” Doug said. “It’s just another way that God is showing up and working His plan through the faithful. Please continue to join us in prayer, financial partnership, and future mission trips to Thailand to see first-hand how God is at work.”
If you are interested in possibly going on the following trip in December, stay tuned for an informational meeting that will be held in August or reach out to Pastor Wesley for more details.
